Gladys Swan is the author of two novels, Carnival for the Gods and Ghost Dance: A Play of Voices. Her most recent collection of short fiction, News from the Volcano, was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, the National Book Critics' Circle Award, and the American Book Award. She received the Tate Prize for Poetry from the Sewanee Review and the Lawrence Foundation Award for Fiction from Prairie Schooner. She has taught creative writing at the University of Missouri and at Vermont College's M.F.A. Program.
