CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

“I’ve been reunited with myself as a creative being who can create the conditions where I can delve into the brown-black pit of the belly where the words come from.”
-David Rain

“Having all the presenters participate at every session was a real pleasure… and a plus in building my writing community.
-Kim Parsons

In this 24/7 world of cell phones, email, and wireless internet, imagine how enriching it would be to take a week off to write, to engage in dynamic conversations with other writers, and indulge in an imaginative exploration that will carry your writing forward for years to come.

If you thrive on creating strong images, powerful word combinations, stunning metaphors, and want to improve your writing skills, then join poet James Navé, memoirist and screenwriter Allegra Huston, of the Hollywood Huston family, at The Writing Salon in Black Mountain for this multi-genre spring fling in the mountains of North Carolina.

Discover how spontaneity, collaboration, craft, performance, and word play can deepen your writing practice and expand your creativity. You will come away energized, inspired, and committed to Writing From the Imaginative Storm.

Our goal is to foster an atmosphere that crackles with safety, passion, fun, and creative spontaneity for writers of all skill levels.  The salon is relaxing, safe, inspiring, and wildly imaginative.  It offers an opportunity for you to enjoy amazing conversations with other writers fostered by beautiful surroundings.

“I’ve never attended any conference or workshop in which the principals worked so diligently to make the attendees comfortable, safe and pleased.”
-Mary Bryant

ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
If you've visited western North Carolina in the past few years, you already know why the Asheville area, including the charming town of Black Mountain, a 20-minute drive east, has been repeatedly named one of the top ten best places in America to visit or live. The area simply explodes with beauty.

Everywhere you look you'll find ancient craggy mountains, deep coves, bubbling clear streams, wildflowers, down home inns, old time music, galleries, and some of the most inspiring and creative people in the world. So, if you're looking for warmth, nature’s splendor, and inspiration after a long winter of ice and cold, springtime in the Southern Highlands is just the ticket.

THE BLACK MOUNTAIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is a 20-minute drive east out of Asheville. Located at 225 West State Street in Black Mountain, NC, it is dedicated to bringing arts to the people and people to the arts by providing both a center for celebrating the arts and a forum for stimulating artistic endeavor.

Formerly the old city hall, the newly renovated Arts Center is located in the middle of Black Mountain next to The Dripolator, a great little wireless coffee shop, as laid back and easy as your favorite cushy chair.  Just like the rest of Black Mountain.

The Appalachian spring is especially resplendent in late April, with warm afternoons highlighted by budding trees and flowers everywhere. It's a perfect balance of nature and small town charm, a breathtaking and creative environment to inspire your writing.

Our workshops will be held in the Center's spacious first floor room equipped with south-facing windows and a stage in case you're so inspired. The classroom doors open onto a large deck, a perfect locale for small groups to gather or for you to grab a breath of fresh air and view the majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

TRAVEL
The nearest airport is Asheville Regional Airport (www.flyavl.com), a 40-minute drive to Black Mountain.

You can also fly into Charlotte, which is a 2-hour drive to Black Mountain. Charlotte (CLT) is a major hub and offers better prices on tickets.

Or you could fly into Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP), a 1.5 hour-drive down the mountain into South Carolina.  GSP, a bigger airport than Asheville (AVL), has many more flights and airlines serving it so the prices are usually better there, as well.
