Movement, brainstorming, and improvisational work generates the rough draft, craft advances it. In this session, we’ll examine how to revise all that messy material into solid drafts itchy for submission.

TUESDAY, JULY 22 10:00-12:00 Telling Your Own Story with Allegra Huston
Write from what you know - one of the best, and most common, pieces of advice. But how do you make your own story compelling to readers who don't know you? Should you tell it straight, or make fiction from it? We'll explore ways of accessing memory and building from it, and discuss the power and the pitfalls of the personal story.

You will explore the shape of story, looking at how energy moves within a story, and at how different types of energy move a story forward. You will enter your own work from a new perspective and discover its hidden nature.

Character is the building block of story. People in action create plot. How do you create those people, make them interesting and individual? How do you make your reader care about them? We'll play with techniques for getting inside a character, and finding what it is that makes a character
